Presidents Report

Our theme for the 2020 Show is “Our Backyard, Your Backyard”. This is to showcase the opportunities we have in our own backyards but also our wider backyard of the Sunshine Coast region, as in who we are and what we can produce.

Planning is well underway for next year. I am excited to say we are well under way with our 2020 schedules after working hard with all our Chief Stewards. We are happy to say that along with all our current sections, there will be several new sections at the 2020 Show including Lego, Budgerigars and Rodents. We are also having discussions regarding adding Pottery and Woodwork competitions too. Earlier this year the committee purchased 16 new glass cabinets, of which 4 were used at the 2019 show. We have just purchased more modular glass cabinets from the Gold Coast Show which will provide us with a lot more cabinet space and flexibility in our layout.

The Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show management team along with the Sunshine Coast Council are working in partnership to put together a grant for a lift in the main pavilion. Should we be successful, this will be great for the Show and the showgrounds and allow us to use more of the upstairs floor of our pavilion. All fingers are crossed for this one.

I would like to thank all our wonderful sponsors for there continual support, as this is a very important part of being able to put on our Show. If anyone knows of any persons or businesses who would like to be part of the Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show, please be sure to let us know.

Thanks to Eddie Grey, our new Management Committee member, we are in the process of re-branding our Show. This will include all our marketing, schedules, letterheads, signage and website. By doing this, it will revive our Shows look and allow us to be relevant and appealing to all sponsors, entrants and patrons.

I hope everyone has a wonderful but safe Christmas and New Year’s and we will be back in 2020 in full swing preparing for the 2020 Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show.

Pavilion Steward Report

What has Jenny been up to as one of the Show’s Patrons and our very own Pavilion Steward you ask? Keep on reading to get the inside scoop.

Palmwoods Country Women’s Association: We have been speaking with the lovely ladies of the Palmwoods CWA committee to form a partnership in preparation for next year’s Show. The ladies will help to promote the schedule as part of the Show Fashion Parade as well as a ‘kid’s up cycle section’, and they are very committed to making/wearing and modelling their creations for all to see.

Palmwoods CWA intend to hold a series of sewing lessons, teaching skills from the cutting of the pattern through to sewing and completing the garment for the Fashion Parade, which will be displayed during the Show.

Student Agricultural Exchange Program

Nambour State College’s (NSC) Agricultural Department and the Whangarei Agricultural and Pastoral Society of New Zealand established a reciprocal student exchange program which has been running since 2013. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that allows students to develop their agricultural knowledge through first hand life experience in a location and country different from their own.

Congratulations to Sierra Spackman and Tamzin Green who were selected as NSC ‘s 2019 ambassadors for the exchange program.
